Epson PictureMate PM-400 in detail
The one real advantage
Unlike dye-sub, the PM-400 prints on standard Epson photo paper. A 100-sheet pack of Epson Value Glossy 4x6 worked out to about 8 cents a sheet on the day of the data pull, and a premium pack to about 15 cents. That freedom to shop for paper is the reason to consider it.
Everything else
A single combined Epson 320 cartridge, borderless 4 x 6 in as fast as about 36 seconds per Epson, wireless printing and a weight of about 6 lb. It’s modest hardware from a few model years back, and the listing price is not modest.
The ink
The Epson 320 cartridge listing carries 4.7 from 1,522 ratings, which is a decent sign that people are happy with it. I don’t have its yield in my data, so the calculator doesn’t model the PM-400.
Where it still fits
If you already buy Epson 4 x 6 paper by the case, the PM-400 uses it. If you don’t, a dye-sub printer is simpler.
