Canon PIXMA PRO-200S vs Epson EcoTank Photo ET-8550
In shortSame maximum print size, opposite philosophies. One is a cartridge printer built for photographs. The other is a tank all-in-one built to make printing cheap. (Searched as ET-8550 vs PRO-200S too.)

Where they differ
Color accuracy
Edge: PIXMA PRO-200S
RTINGS measured an average color error of about 3.2 dE for the original PRO-200 and about 6.5 for the ET-8550 (lower is better). The PRO-200S is a close refresh, so expect the same story. Both printed fine detail well in that test, so the gap shows up in color matching, not sharpness.
Cost of the next print
Edge: EcoTank Photo ET-8550
Epson’s listing claims about 4 cents of ink for a 4 x 6, and this site’s planning figures put a 13 x 19 at well under a dollar of ink on the ET-8550 versus a few dollars on the Canon. On the listings I pulled the tank was also the pricier box, and by these figures it pays that back after a few dozen 13 x 19 prints or a few hundred 4 x 6. Paper cost is the same on both.
The rest of the machine
Edge: EcoTank Photo ET-8550
The ET-8550 scans, copies and has a touchscreen, an SD slot and Ethernet. The PRO-200S is print only and lists 2 pages per minute for documents.
Who should pick which
Pick the PIXMA PRO-200S if
Color accuracy matters: client work, matched prints, a calibrated workflow.
Pick the EcoTank Photo ET-8550 if
You print a lot, in volume or at 13 x 19, and also want a scanner.
The call
Photographers who sell prints will be happier on the Canon. Everyone else printing often should look hard at the tank. Run your numbers in the calculator before deciding.
