Epson SureColor P900 review

My verdictExcellent on paper and widely used, but the 3.7 owner rating on the listing is lower than you’d expect. Read the critical reviews before you commit.

Epson SureColor P900 in detail

What Epson gives you

Ten-channel UltraChrome PRO10 pigment ink with a violet channel for a wider gamut, and a print head with a dedicated nozzle set for photo black and matte black. That second part matters: you don’t lose ink or time swapping blacks when you change papers.

A Carbon Black driver mode raises maximum black density for black-and-white work. The listing also mentions printing from iOS devices with Epson’s app.

About that 3.7

Amazon shows 3.7 from 286 ratings on the listing pulled here. That’s lower than the Canon 17-inch (4.4 from 87) and lower than most of the printers on this site. A single number can’t tell me whether the pattern is clogging, shipping damage, driver issues or price disappointment. The honest advice is to sort the listing by recent and critical reviews and see which complaints repeat.

Any pigment printer is happier when it’s used regularly. If this one will sit for weeks, factor in the cleaning cycles and the ink they use.

Where it still makes sense

If you print black and white seriously, or like the Epson workflow and driver, the P900 earns its place. The extra width over a 13-inch machine is real, and Epson’s no-swap black design is a quiet quality-of-life win.

The older sibling and the bundles

Epson’s earlier 17-inch pigment model, the P800, still turns up on Amazon at a higher price and a slightly lower rating on the listings I pulled. Unless you find a clean used one, the P900 is the better buy. One P900 listing is a bundle with cables, priced well above the base printer and rated 5.0 from only 2 ratings. Ignore that number and compare what’s in the box.

Weight and placement

At about 35 lb it’s much easier to place than the Canon, but it’s still a large printer with a deep footprint. A stable surface and room at the back for paper handling matter more than a fancy stand.

The catches

  • Rating is lower than the Canon equivalent on these listings.
  • About 35 lb, so it still needs a stable surface.
  • The buy-box price can vary across sellers and bundles. Compare before clicking.
