HP Sprocket Studio Plus review
My verdictA 4x6 printer built around its phone app. If you like decorating photos before printing, it’s the most fun. If not, the Canon is steadier.

HP Sprocket Studio Plus in detail
It’s really an app with a printer attached
HP’s listing leads with filters, frames, stickers and augmented-reality extras in the HP app, plus quick printing from linked social accounts. Connect over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. If you don’t want the editing layer, you’re paying for features you won’t use.
Print quality and care
Dye-sub 4 x 6 with a protective overcoat; the listing describes prints as tear-resistant, smudge-proof and waterproof. Same family of technology as the Canon, so the finish is similar.
Which listing
There are several Studio Plus listings. The one I feature includes 118 sheets and two cartridges; others ship with 10 sheets or different bundles. Ratings vary from 3.9 to 4.4 across them, which more likely reflects bundle and seller differences than the printer. Refill packs of 108 sheets with two cartridges came out at about 43 cents a print.
Bundles compared
There are four Studio Plus listings in my data. Pick by what’s in the box: 10 sheets and a cartridge, 118 sheets and two cartridges with a travel case, and 118 sheets and three cartridges. The paper is where the money goes, so a bundle with more of it makes sense.
Refills
HP’s paper and cartridge packs come in 108-sheet size, about 43 cents a print on the listing I pulled.
The catches
- Ratings vary by listing.
- Refill packs are HP’s own; plan on buying them from the same lineup.
- App-first.
